Based in the heart of North Shields, YMCA Gym boasts 3 impressive gym areas and over 60 classes every week including the latest from Les Mills. We offer one to one training and support to all of our gym members with community and wellbeing being at the core of everything we do.
Who Are We Looking For
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Gym Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in gym management with demonstrable experience of managing a gym, with strong operational skills and the ability to plan, organise, and solve problems effectively. Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills are essential, as you’ll be responsible for motivating and guiding a team to deliver outstanding gym sessions and classes.
We’re seeking someone who thrives in a team environment and is committed to delivering exceptional customer service. Someone who has a minimum level 3 personal training and specialist level 4 fitness qualifications. Financial awareness and experience in managing budgets are important, as is proficiency in using IT systems and gym membership software.

Your Key Responsibilities
As a key part of your role, you’ll ensure the service consistently meets its strategic goals, hits budgetary targets, and provides high-quality service with excellent customer care. This involves a hands-on operational presence, effectively managing and developing staff through recruitment, training and promoting a cohesive team environment.
You’ll be responsible for financial oversight, including interpreting management accounts and achieving gym targets, along with monitoring and evaluating class attendance and supporting health referral programmes. You’ll also maintain facilities efficiently, ensure health and safety compliance and manage data accurately in line with GDPR.
A crucial aspect is enhancing customer experience by actively seeking feedback and adhering to safeguarding and organisational policies. Finally, you’ll contribute to reporting and evaluation, including KPI and funding reports, while also focusing on your personal and business development.
