SEMH Teaching Assistant – Full-time, long-term temporary role starting as soon as possible This school provides a calm, structured, and supportive learning environment where pupils benefit from consistent routines and strong pastoral support. Staff work collaboratively to help pupils regulate their emotions, engage positively with learning, and build confidence. Leaders promote a culture where pupils feel safe, understood, and well supported in both their academic and personal development. Duties as SEMH Teaching Assistant: Provide full‑time support for pupils with SEMH needs Assist with emotional regulation and behaviour strategies Build positive, trusting relationships to encourage engagement Support pupils who may display challenging behaviours Assist with lesson tasks and reinforce key learning activities Work closely with teachers and pastoral teams Follow individual learning plans and behaviour support approaches Uphold safeguarding standards and prioritise pupil welfare Ideal SEMH Teaching Assistant: Strong experience supporting SEMH pupils Confident managing dysregulated or emotionally vulnerable pupils Patient, calm, and resilient in challenging situations Good communication and teamwork skills Able to adapt support strategies to varied pupil needs Proactive, reliable, and consistent in approach Committed to safeguarding and promoting pupil well‑being Stand Out with Step Teachers At Step Teachers, we’re proud to be the only education recruitment agency in Norfolk offering Step On training, part of the County’s respected Norfolk Steps behaviour management programme to all teachers and support staff who register with us.
