The Estates Department operate and maintain, energy and environmental resources, controls, electrical and mechanical services providing power, lighting, heating, air conditioning to wards, outpatients and operating theatres. Estates directly impacts on patient welfare, frontline clinical care, infection prevention and control and energy efficiency and sustainability across the Estates Trust.
We have an exciting opportunity for a committed, highly self-motivated individual. The Royal Marsden is looking for an Estates Officer to join the Estates Team in Chelsea. This is a highly valuable broad ranging role, which will expose them to the whole range of Estates services including mechanical, electrical, building & energy control systems and project management. The candidate must be highly proactive in developing their technical knowledge in all aspects of training and work undertaken, engage in active discussions about skills, techniques, methods and approach to tasks in order to develop as a skilled professional. Main duties of the job
1.1. Be dynamic in their approach and flexible and adaptable to changing needs and priorities
1.2. Work proactively with frontline Estates staff in delivering an effective service as well as support management.
1.3. To ensure that The RMH Healthcare Policies and procedures are adhered to.
1.4. The post holder will be required to always comply with the requirements of the Health & Safety regulations and the Works and Trust’s Health & Safety Policies and Procedures
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Patient needs and medical advances frequently bring redevelopment or updating of departments. Whether this work is a maintenance project, in-house or a delegated Capital Scheme, the need to support and liaise with Architects, Consultants, Contractors and staff is frequent. Due to this updating of the Trust, the post holder will be required to communicate on all levels particularly with estates trade staff and to all departments as well as, keep and update records of work undertaken, planned preventative maintenance schedules and labour management systems such as the Computerised Aided Facility Management system (CAFM) and the Manpower systems,
The post frequently involves diplomacy, tact and persuasion when communicating/dealing with the departments and outside representatives and when introducing new work practices, policies, legislation or techniques.
The Estates Officer will spend much of his time hands-on, operating and maintaining mechanical plant and building and managing junior trade staff and apprentices /trainees. There is a requirement to manage several tasks at one time due to the frequent and unpredictable diversions or incidents.

Education/Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. A good standard of education
2. Specialist knowledge acquired through relevant HNC/HND/Degree course or equivalent working experience and responsibilities and underpinned by: Relevant C&G trade apprenticeship or equivalent on the job experience
3. Post apprentice experience
4. One or more Hospital Engineering related qualification, i.e., Ventilation/water/lift maintenance/ medical gases/ sterilizers
Desirable criteria
5. Service training
6. Additional Hospital Engineering related qualification
7. Recognised supervisory management qualification
8. Recognised Health & Safety Qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
9. Demonstrable experience within a maintenance environment.
10. Proficient in the use of hand tools and machinery
11. Highly aware of Health & Safety issues
12. Experienced in working in a demand driven service
13. Experienced in working to deadlines
14. Experienced in issuing permits to work

15. Supervision of multi- disciplinary team in healthcare premises

Flu Vaccination – What We Expect of our Staff
At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.
The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
