This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced nurse to join our dedicated Children Looked After (CLA) Nursing Team.
The number of Children Looked After (CLA) and the movement of children in and out of care is increasing. The demand for statutory health assessments is constantly challenging with over 50% of Buckinghamshire Children looked After paced outside of the county borders.
As an expert clinician the specialist nurse will undertake quality Review Health Assessments (RHA’s) alongside wrap-a-round health care supporting therapeutic relationships with the goal of improved health outcomes for the babies, children and young people we care for.
Main duties of the job
·This is a privileged role looking after the health needs of some of the most vulnerable yet resilient children in our community.
The post holder will be responsible for a caseload of children looked after and children known to the youth justice service, autonomously undertaking direct specialist clinical work including carrying out statutory health assessment reviews.
The post holder will work in partnership with the Named and Designated professionals to implement National Guidance and Local Policy for Children Looked After.
The post holder will support training to other health and social care professionals.
The post holder will have responsibility for children placed out of Buckinghamshire. This includes undertaking the health assessment and/or liaison with other agencies and services, coordinating effective care and acting as an advocate where necessary.
The post holder will provide expertise and demonstrate sophisticated clinical skills to work directly with vulnerable children and adolescents from a background of trauma and/or neglect.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Essential criteria
1. Current registration with NMC as a Nurse or Midwife
2. Relevant degree or evidence of study at degree level
3. Qualified School Nurse, Health Visitor, Paediatric/ Mental Health Nurse or relevant experience.
4. Up to date Safeguarding Training
Desirable criteria
5. Family Planning or Sexual Health Training
6. Teaching skills/Certificates
EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
7. Relevant post-qualifying experience in working with children and young people
8. Experience in working with children and young people who have suffered abuse/trauma
9. Evidence of multi-agency working and the ability to network
10. Experience of working with children and young people exhibiting risky behaviours; this would include substance misuse, frequent episodes of missing and possible Child Exploitation
Desirable criteria
11. Experience of carrying out audits and contributing to reports
12. Experience of supporting others with their learning (children, families, carers, professionals)
SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE
Essential criteria
13. Highly effective communication skills – verbal and written
14. Ability to assess and identify health needs, including the ability to analyse information
15. Awareness of current legislation/guidance/ policy with regards to Looked After Children and the ability to inform/influence colleagues at every level
16. Awareness of Corporate Parenting Roles & Responsibilities and the ability to inform/influence colleagues at every level of their own responsibilities as corporate parents.
17. Ability to work autonomously across partner agencies
Desirable criteria
18. Good range of IT skills, ie use of excel, electronic systems, word and MSTs
19. Commitment to team and multi-agency working but with the ability to work on own initiative.
SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES
Essential criteria
20. Ability to travel to wherever the children/young people are placed and wish to be seen in agreement with Lead Named Nurse
21. Ability to work within BHT’s Agile working policy :-this being a framework in which to support the Trust’s strategy to create a sustained cultural and organisational change whereby home and agile working is business as usual for staff employed by Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.
PPE requirements: Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust requires all colleagues to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with our infection prevention and control procedures.
