Behaviour Support Assistant – Secondary School – Fareham, Hampshire

Are you passionate about helping young people develop better behaviour and emotional regulation in a supportive school setting?

GSL Education are seeking a Behaviour Support Assistant to work full-time at a secondary school in Fareham. This role starts in September 2025 or October 2025, depending on notice periods. The successful candidate will be working alongside the school’s Pastoral Team, primarily supporting students who have been removed from classes due to poor behaviour or are experiencing social, emotional, and mental health challenges (SEMH) such as anxiety or depression.

This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who are patient, resilient, and committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of students. The role offers the chance for long-term development, with the possibility to progress through pay grades as experience is gained.

Behaviour Support Assistant Responsibilities:

* Work with students who display challenging behaviours or SEMH needs, offering positive reinforcement and mentoring
* Provide 1:1 and small group support to help students reintegrate into mainstream classes
* Support the Pastoral Team in implementing behaviour support strategies and personalised intervention plans
* Foster a safe and structured environment for students to reflect, refocus, and re-engage with learning
* Liaise with teaching staff, parents, and external professionals to ensure consistent support for each student

Requirements for Behaviour Support Assistant:

* Experience working with young people, ideally in educational or youth work setting
* CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Teaching Assistant or similar is desirable but not mandatory
* A degree in SEN, Psychology or a similar field.
* A calm, non-judgemental, and confident approach to behaviour support
* Understanding of the challenges faced by students with SEMH needs
* Good communication and teamwork skills
* Have an up-to-date CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one)
