Community Nursery Nurse


Band 4

Employer: South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust
Location: Coventry Health Visiting
Salary: £28,392 – £31,157 per annum (pro rata)


Job Overview

An exciting opportunity for a Community Nursery Nurse to support the Coventry Health Visiting Team and work with challenging and vulnerable families. The role requires respect, sensitivity and suitable communication skills to support parents in caring for their children.


Main Duties

The Community Nursery Nurse will work independently and as part of the health visiting team to promote positive outcomes for children and young people. Key duties include carrying out developmental assessments and supporting parents/carers by offering advice and care interventions across a range of health issues, including toileting, bedwetting, behaviour management, parenting advice and facilitating parenting groups.


Detailed Responsibilities

• Undertake delegated work from the health visitor to improve health outcomes through 1:1 work, group work, home visiting, nursery and school setting, and telephone advice.

• Provide single parent support for children’s weight management requests.

• Submit accurate activity and outcome data to monitor KPI targets set by the Trust and local authority.

• Conduct developmental assessments using ASQ, SOGS and other appropriate tools, and deliver brief interventions and feedback to the health visitor.

• Apply child protection guidelines, recognise protection needs and report concerns following Coventry Safeguarding Children’s Board policy.

• Support public health initiatives consistent with national/local messages and contribute to health visiting teams at Open Baby Clinics.

• Respond to general enquiries from parents/carers and school/nursery staff, referring back to the health visitor.

• Act as a resource to nurseries, parents/carers, providing information on health initiatives such as healthy eating.

• Adhere to Health Visiting standards, guidelines, confidentiality and trust policies.

• Attend statutory and mandatory training programmes, including regular appraisal and clinical supervision.

• Participate in team and locality meetings to maintain up-to-date trust information and contribute to clinical audits and benchmarking.


Qualifications

* Foundation degree, Assistant Practitioner, NVQ Level 3 in early years care, Btec in early years or equivalent.
* Completed Common Assessment Framework training or willingness to undertake it.
* Commitment to continue training as required.


Experience

* Minimum of two years’ experience working with children and families.
* Experience providing health advice to parents/carers and other agencies such as education staff.
* Understanding of health promotion activities that support positive outcomes for children and young people.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and social media (Twitter, Facebook).


Skills

* Knowledge of the role of the school nurse team in health promotion and wellbeing.
* Understanding of confidentiality requirements in all workplace aspects.
* Knowledge and application of safeguarding principles for vulnerable children and adults.
* Ability to work both independently and in a team.
* Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication with colleagues, other professionals, children and families.


Other Requirements

* Full driving licence and access to a vehicle for community role.
* Willingness to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service check.
* Legally entitled to work in the UK.
* Prepared to work between 8:00 am – 8:00 pm and weekends if required.
* Non-smoker whilst on duty.


Work Arrangements

Flexible working arrangements are available, with expectations of regular office presence and community visits. Car parking is limited; a waiting list exists for new starters.


Probationary Period

All new staff are subject to a standard six‑month probationary period.
