Care Support Worker

Job Summary
30 hours per week. An opportunity to be part of the Integrated Community Stroke Rehabilitation Team in Barnsley. The service provides care to patients following a Stroke in both inpatient and community settings, enabling them to access rehabilitation therapy upon discharge home with the same intensity and expertise they would receive in hospital. The integrated team allows for stroke‑specific therapy to be continued for up to 6 months.
Responsibilities
* Work as part of a multi‑professional team in an inpatient setting, providing safe and compassionate planned care to maximise recovery and rehabilitation potential.
* Carry out rehabilitation programmes set by therapists and nursing team.
* Support and motivate patients to participate in rehabilitation and communicate effectively.
* Participate in training, education and clinical supervision to develop skills and knowledge.
* Provide personal care duties – bathing, toileting, dressing, meals and assist with appearance.
* Assist clinicians in everyday tasks and routine administration or housekeeping tasks.
* Ensure safe movement and handling of service users and use of equipment such as hoists and wheelchairs.
* Respond to verbal or physical aggression, manage risks and report to clinicians where required.
* Maintain accurate documentation and use IT to record care and communication.
* Work flexible rostering arrangements, providing 24‑hour/7‑day care where appropriate.
Qualifications & Experience
* A satisfactory sickness record over the previous 2 years.
* Willing to undertake all Trust mandatory training, including the Care Certificate and relevant refresher training.
* Compassionate, caring and a genuine desire to work for the NHS.
* Good standard of English and maths, GCSE A‑G.
* Care Certificate or required to achieve within 12 weeks of commencement.
Person Specification
* Experience: Evidence of working in a caring environment or voluntary position.
* Physical attributes: Able to fulfil Occupational Health requirements for the post.
* Training: Level 2 qualification in health and social care if eligible to enable progression to band 3 HCSW.
* Personal attributes: Embrace Trust Values, compassionate, responsive attitude, appropriate dress, and commute ability (current driving licence or car access expected).
* Special knowledge and skills: Understand customer care skills, basic IT, confidentiality, resilient under pressure, flexible 24‑hour shift pattern, non‑judgemental empathy, effective interpersonal and communication skills, teamwork.
