About The Role
Balfour Beatty, a leader in infrastructure and engineering, is expanding our team of skilled Substation Wiremen across England and Wales. We’re looking for experienced electricians to support the installation and commissioning of high‑voltage (HV) plant and apparatus.
Key Responsibilities
* Install HV equipment at all voltage levels from 33kV to 400kV, including switchgear, transformers, busbars, connectors and ground earthing systems.
* Perform hot tinning, mechanical bending/forming and erection of aluminium and steel structures.
* Install and terminate multicore and power cables, ensuring compliance with client standards.
* Read, interpret and apply modifications to red and green drawings.
* Install electrical labels, interlocks and wire control panels.
* Resolve on‑site electrical issues in coordination with site supervisors and managers, ensuring adherence to all procedures.
* Maintain strict compliance with safety protocols and industry standards at all times.
What you’ll be doing
* Liaise with the Project Management Team on progress of the job to guarantee activities are coordinated effectively across the project.
* Work with the relevant supporting functions to ensure equipment and materials are delivered to site in a timely manner.
* Ensure that accidents and near‑miss incidents are promptly reported with accurate details and assist in investigations when required.
* Ensure that documentation of data and reporting requirements are satisfied within the required time frames.
* Work closely with the commissioning team and engineering department for successful interfacing.
Who we’re looking for

The Following Qualities/experience Are Essential
* SJIB Qualified 1.1 – competent in the installation of HV substation apparatus.
* Competent in site installation procedures.
* CPCS training or similar.
* Ability to work at heights.
* Proactively develop and maintain a strong safety culture.
* Identify competencies and skills required to undertake tasks and ensure personnel are trained and competent to carry them out.
* Good communication skills to effectively brief team and engage with wider functions at a range of seniority levels.
* Hold Current UK Driving Licence.
The Following Qualities/experience Are Desirable
* SSE/SPEN/NG authorisations as required; 1.2 MEWP licence and/or.
* Telehandler/ROTO preferred.
The Candidate Is Likely To Have The Following
* Experience of working in high voltage substation environments.
