Offer description

Location: Nicholas & Harris, Salisbury, SP2 7PU

Shift: 4 on, 4 off – 6am until 6pm

We are recruiting a Quality Assurance (QA) Technician to join our Technical team at Nicholas & Harris, supporting the delivery of high-quality, safe and compliant products across our bakery operations. This is a hands‑on, operational role at the heart of the production environment, ensuring that food safety, quality and compliance standards are consistently met throughout the manufacturing process.

Finsbury Food Group is a leading speciality bakery manufacturer. We constantly raise quality and efficiency standards and build long‑term relationships with major multiple retailers and the foodservice channel. Nicholas & Harris has over 180 years of heritage in craft baking methods. If you like artisanal, organic and speciality breads, or have special dietary preferences, our bakery in Salisbury has you covered!

Working as part of the Technical team, you will play a key role in ensuring that all products meet customer specifications and internal quality standards. Acting as a key link between Technical and Operations, you will help ensure that quality and food safety requirements are embedded into day‑to‑day production, supporting a culture of right first time and continuous improvement.

This is what you’ll actually do!

As a QA Technician, you’ll be responsible for carrying out quality assurance activities across the full production process, ensuring compliance with customer, legal and internal standards at every stage. You’ll complete a range of daily, weekly and monthly checks across production and site equipment, including calibration of scales and temperature probes, monitoring refrigeration systems, and reviewing data logger outputs. You’ll ensure all records are accurate, up to date and audit‑ready, maintaining strong control of documentation and traceability throughout the process.

A key part of your role will be product quality verification. You’ll lead daily taste panels, assess product against specification, and review production paperwork to ensure consistency and compliance. You’ll also carry out microbiological, allergen and hygiene swabbing, preparing samples for laboratory analysis and following up on any actions required.

You’ll be responsible for raw material inspections and supporting the positive release of finished products, ensuring only compliant products are released to customers. Where issues arise, you’ll manage non‑conformances and contribute to root cause analysis, supporting effective resolution and continuous improvement.

In addition, you’ll conduct internal audits across GMP, CCP and traceability standards, ensuring corrective actions are implemented and sustained. You’ll work closely with Operations, NPD and Technical teams, providing guidance, challenge and support to maintain high standards across the site.

Your success will be measured by consistent compliance with food safety and quality standards, accurate and timely completion of QA checks, and your contribution to audit readiness, customer satisfaction and continuous improvement across the site.

Ideally this is you!

* Previous experience within a food manufacturing environment
* Level 2 Food Safety qualification (or equivalent)
* Strong understanding of GMP, CCP and food safety standards
* Excellent attention to detail and record‑keeping accuracy
* Confident communicator, able to engage with multiple departments
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to work at pace
* IT literate, with experience using Microsoft Office (Word & Excel)
* Problem‑solving mindset with the ability to analyse data and trends
* Flexible and adaptable to support wider Technical team activities

What’s in it for you!

* Enhanced Maternity & Paternity Leave to allow quality time with your new arrival!
* Enhanced Pension Scheme for our employees
* Death in Service Benefit
* Free Employee Assistance Programme (open to colleagues and their families)
* Retail discounts accessible via our Benefits Hub platform
