The post holder will provide a dedicated Paediatric Phlebotomy for a specified group of children referred by both the Paediatricians and GP's across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin. The post holder will be required to carry out phlebotomy skills under both direct and indirect supervision of the Community Children's Nursing (CCN) Team, in a community clinic setting. There may be occasions when the post holder will need to attend a clients home to collect blood samples. The post holder will lead the phlebotomy sessions and in the first instance manage any unplanned events that may occur and escalate to the CCN Team Lead as necessary. The post holder will have additional duties which includes supporting the training of new staff to the service as well as overseeing the maintenance of stock within the clinic settings. Main duties of the job To collect blood samples for patients by venepuncture or capillary as requested by nursing and medical staff, in the community setting. To be competent and confident in the selection of the appropriate sample bottle for all common laboratory investigations. To be competent at performing venepuncture in children and young people Be aware of the procedures and policies required for bleeding High Risk, Immunocompromised and barrier nursed patients and how to deal with a needlestick injury.
