Hays Engineering are recruiting for an engineeringpany in Co Tyrone, for a Lead R&D Design Engineer. In this role you will be heavily responsible for leading new product development, from initial concept to final production, by identifying new technologies, designing prototypes, and managing the R&D process. The job requires a strong technical background in engineering, leadership skills to guide a team, and expertise in CAD/CAE and data analysis for at least the next 5 years. Key duties include research, material selection, prototype testing, and cross-functional team leadership to ensure projects meet technical, cost, and time objectives.
Your New Role
1. Lead product development: Take ownership of the entire R&D process for new products, from initial idea to market release.
2. Conduct research: Identify, investigate, and evaluate new ideas, technologies, and materials for their performance and stability.
3. Design and prototype: Create and refine product designs using CAD/CAE software, build prototypes, and perform testing and data analysis to optimise them.
4. Manage projects: Lead and manage R&D projects, working collaboratively with cross-functional teams to meet project goals, deadlines, and budgets.
5. Oversee testing: Manage product andponent testing, ensuring designs meet customer needs and regulatorypliance.
6. Collaborate andmunicate: Work with senior management, other departments (, manufacturing,mercial), and external vendors and clients.
7. Ensure quality andpliance: Develop specifications and test methods, and ensurepliance with all relevant health, safety, and quality policies.
8. Necessary skills and qualifications
9. Education: Typically requires an engineering degree (, mechanical, electronic).
10. Technical skills: Strong knowledge of engineering principles, CAD/CAE, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) is essential.
11. Analytical skills: Proficiency in data analysis,plex problem-solving, and using mathematical modelling.
12. Leadership and soft skills: Excellentmunication, organisational skills, time management, and the ability to lead and motivate a team.
13. Software proficiency: Strongputer literacy, including experience with main software packages, Microsoft Office Suite, and specialised engineering software.
14. Experience: Significant experience in R&D and product development, often including leadership experience.
What you'll Need to Succeed
15. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
16. 5 years’ experience in R&D/Product development
17. Experience managing/leading a team of engineers
18. Strong background in crushing and screening
19. Proficiency in CAD software (, SolidWorks, Inventor)
20. Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and materials
21. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
22. Effectivemunicator and team player
