Job Summary
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Band 6 midwife to join our dedicated homebirth team. The role involves providing care in the home throughout the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods. You will hold a caseload of women for whom you will be the named midwife throughout the antenatal and postnatal period. Your excellent communication skills will enable you to plan and implement individualised, midwifery‑led care in partnership with the wider multidisciplinary team. You will continually provide holistic risk assessments for those choosing to birth at home, ensuring their medical, psychological and social needs are met.
This team operates a 24/7 homebirth service. You will undergo an orientation package and will be supported by experienced midwives. Flexibility to provide care in the home setting and a full driving licence with access to a car are required.
Responsibilities
 * Provide safe, evidence‑based, personalised care to women and birthing people throughout pregnancy, birth and postnatal journey.
 * Promote and facilitate choice for those wishing to birth at home.
 * Undertake holistic risk assessments to support appropriate care.
 * Work in partnership with the multidisciplinary team to coordinate care and refer as needed.
 * Contribute to reducing health inequalities by supporting an accessible service.
 * Manage all aspects of care in the community setting, including intrapartum care at home.
 * Recognise deviations from normality and refer appropriately.
 * Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of current research and trends, and contribute to evidence‑based policies and guidelines for maternity services.
 * Empower women/birthing people to make informed choices and act as their advocate at all times.
 * Improve childbirth experiences by offering a choice of place of birth and working in partnership with families when making decisions about care.
 * Ensure the safety and confidentiality of patients, and keep records in accordance with Trust policies.
 * Participate in parenting assessments and education.
 * Maintain effective working relationships across the Trust.
 * Offer personalised models of care, acknowledging the diversity of client groups and treating everyone with dignity and respect.
 * Support and encourage women/birthing people to achieve good clinical and psychological outcomes for themselves and their babies.
 * Identify families with child protection issues and communicate them to the manager and named midwife.
 * Develop midwifery practice for the future, redefining the role and building on public health skills to maximise impact on health inequalities.
 * Partner with children centres and other agencies to offer wider choice and local access to services.
 * Manage effectively all aspects of caseload and administration.
 * Communicate complicated and sensitive information to women, families and multidisciplinary team members.
 * Implement changes based on feedback, learning from incidents and ensuring continuous improvement.
 * Contribute to performance management of midwifery services through data collection for audit and research purposes.
