What You'll Be Doing:
As a Senior Radiation Physicist, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of our operations. Your responsibilities will include:
* Conducting radiological safety assessments
* Assessing radiation damage risk to electronics
* Developing and deploying radiation detection systems
* Completing the systems engineering design of the secondary shielding system
* Running and analyzing point kernel and Monte Carlo calculations
* Providing technical advice on the impact of changes and defects across the entire vessel
* Developing ALARP justifications to support design decisions
Your Skills and Experience:
We’re looking for candidates who possess the following qualifications:
* A degree in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Nuclear Science, or a related field
* Demonstrable knowledge/experience in radiation physics, nuclear engineering, or nuclear safety
* Experience with radiological safety assessments and ALARP justifications
* Familiarity with radiation transport methods (e.g., ATTILLA, MCBEND, MCNP)

The Radiation Physics & Shielding Team:
Join a dynamic team responsible for designing and validating radiation shielding for the UK's nuclear-powered submarine fleet. Our work spans three different submarine programs at various stages of the engineering lifecycle, including:
* Designing new shields
* Providing design change assessments
* Conducting radiation metrology on-board during commissioning
We also conduct radiological safety studies, design novel radiation detectors, and develop capabilities in radiation damage to electronics. Relocation support packages are available for eligible candidates across all submarine roles.
