The role
As a Principal EC&I (Electrical Control & Instrumentation) Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary where you’ll play a key part in our Mechanical Handling Team, part of Technical Authority within the Facilities Engineering Group. You will be involved with managing the reference design of existing mechanical handing assets across the Devonport site and contributing to the design and specification of new equipment.
Day to day, you will lead on providing professional technical advice to support ongoing operational availability and maintenance of mechanical handling assets. You’ll also play a significant role in contributing to the design function where the focus of activities is on the provision of new, or modification to, crane designs, lifting equipment and systems as well as injection of new capabilities and undertaking life extension activities.
Responsibilities as Principal EC&I Engineer will also include generating, approving, and accepting the following:
1. Design development through the whole design lifecycle (requirements, development, drawings, calculations, specifications and reports).
2. Supporting the implementation of new designs (factory acceptance testing, supporting commissioning).
3. Maintaining the content and configuration of the reference design documentation of extant assets through-life.
4. Specifying replacement equipment/components and supporting the production of configuration documentation for permanent modifications.
5. Undertaking asset conditions surveys and producing condition reports / fault-finding on existing assets.
6. Carrying out periodic reviews of maintenance regimes and activities.
This role is full time, 36 hours and will be based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard with hybrid working from home arrangements.
Essential experience of the Principal EC&I Engineer:
7. Experience of cranes/lifting equipment and crane operations or knowledge and experience of other electro-mechanical/hydraulic systems.
8. Experience of operating within nuclear or other high-hazard environments.
9. Experience in the use of CAD
Qualifications for the Principal EC&I Engineer:
A minimum of HNC, degree preferred or equivalent in an Electrical/Electronic Engineering discipline.
The successful candidate must be a Sole UK National and able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.
