Position: Management Accountant
Grade: SMT
Salary: £45,878 per annum
Hours: Full time
Contract type: Permanent
Responsible to: Head of Finance
Location: In the building. Hybrid working option available (part in the building and part remote). Not suitable for full remote working.
Purpose of Job
The Management Accountant works as part of the Finance Team, mainly producing monthly management accounts, monitoring project and programme costs, and supporting the Head of Finance with daily finance operations.
This role is part of the Strategic Management Team, sharing responsibility for Watershed’s business planning and performance. The post involves participation in the ongoing software migration project.
Main Responsibilities
* Prepare monthly management accounts, including reconciliation and commentary.
* Prepare group accounts with intercompany reconciliation.
* Report on project grants, including quarterly submissions and liaising with project managers.
* Monitor and record income and expenditure, ensure documentation is audit-ready, and prepare funding claims.
* Develop weekly cashflow forecasts.
* Maintain the accounting system, including chart of accounts and user permissions.
* Assist with annual accounts and audits.
* Support daily finance operations like sales, purchases, and payroll.
* Perform other duties as required.
Key Performance Indicators
* Timely, accurate financial reports.
* Effective project activity monitoring and timely fund claims.
* Accurate cashflow forecasts.
* Smooth functioning of the accounting system and controls.
* Effective department operation in the absence of the Head of Finance.
* Membership or finalist status in an accountancy body (CIMA, ACCA, etc.).
* Strong understanding of management accounting.
* Methodical work approach, ability to meet deadlines.
* Good communication skills across all levels.
* Experience with processing finance transactions and reconciliations.
