An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Procurement Manager to join a high-performing infrastructure delivery team working on a £1bn+ portfolio of live and future projects.
This is a procurement leadership role within a fast-paced environment, offering exposure to major substation and power infrastructure programmes, complex workstreams, and a rapidly expanding pipeline.
Role responsibilities:
Reporting into a Senior Procurement Lead, you will take ownership of a critical substation workstream, leading procurement strategy, delivery, and continuous improvement across multiple projects.
You'll manage and develop a team of 5-8 procurement professionals (senior buyers, buyers, and emerging talent), operating in a hands-off, strategic, and supportive leadership style, while still being close enough to challenge, influence, and raise standards.
This role also acts as a deputy to the senior procurement leadership, requiring confidence, credibility, and strong stakeholder presence.
Key Responsibilities:
End-to-end procurement leadership across major substation and power projects
Managing complex, high-value workstreams within a multi-project portfolio
Leading, mentoring, and developing a growing procurement team
Driving new ways of working and raising expectations of procurement delivery
Working closely with construction, commercial, and delivery stakeholders
Embedding best practice supply chain management and governance
Supporting live sites and project teams as required
Required Experience:
A proven procurement leader with strong end-to-end process expertise
Experience in power, utilities, infrastructure, or major construction projects
Substation experience highly desirable (but not essential with relevant exposure)
Confident managing and influencing senior stakeholders
Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-change environment
Strong communicator, team player, and natural leader
Working knowledge of NEC3 / NEC4 contracts preferred
Public sector or regulated environment experience advantageous
Exposure to organisations such as National Grid would be beneficial
Location & Flexibility
Derby-based role (3 days per week on site)
Regular travel to project sites to support delivery teams
Future opportunity to work from a new Leeds hub
Why Apply?
£1bn+ portfolio of nationally significant infrastructure projects
Major substation programmes with long-term visibility
Strong leadership support and opportunity to influence at senior level
Expanding team and "ridiculous" project pipeline
A role with real impact, autonomy, and progression potential
All applications will be handled in the strictest confidence.
