Contract Mechanical Engineer (Aerospace)
We’re supporting a leading aerospace programme and are looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join a flight‑critical component requalification project.
This is a highly detail‑focused role, ideal for engineers with a strong background in compliance, validation, and engineering documentation, who are comfortable working independently and taking full ownership of their deliverables.
Location: Birmingham (hybrid)
Duration: 12–18 months
Start Date: ASAP
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct deep‑drive reviews of engineering documentation (drawings, specifications, supplier data packs)
* Assess and validate First Article Inspection (FAI) documentation
* Identify gaps, inconsistencies, and risks in technical data and resolve them methodically
* Analyse drawing revisions and assess their impact on performance, compliance, and reliability
* Ensure all documentation aligns with flight safety and regulatory requirements
* Support requalification activities, including change management and traceability
* Collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers to ensure documentation integrity
* Maintain a clear and auditable record of findings and decisions
Required Experience
* 15+ years’ experience in mechanical engineering (ideally aerospace or highly regulated industries)
* Strong experience with flight‑critical or safety‑critical components
* FAI (First Article Inspection)
* Change management and revision analysis
* Experience working with suppliers and validating technical data packs
* Strong understanding of engineering standards, compliance, and quality processes
