The Risk & Compliance team is looking to recruit a Compliance Officer based at our Preston office. The overall purpose of this role is to provide accurate, timely, efficient, and professional support to the compliance team and the wider firm. This will enable the compliance team to operate within compliance standards and provide quality support to service line teams.


The Role

* Handle routine compliance queries received by the Compliance Department and escalate when appropriate.
* Review referred AML checks and advise Fee Earners within specified timeframes.
* Provide administrative support to the Risk & Compliance Manager.
* Collaborate with other operations teams to ensure project completion.
* Timely acknowledgment of complaints and ensure progression in line with complaints procedures.
* Produce and distribute monthly compliance reports to Fee Earners.
* Assist with reaccreditation processes for CQS, Lexcel, etc.
* Assist with data collection for annual insurance renewals.
* Handle file transfer requests.
* Research changes in laws related to compliance.
* Maintain compliance records using appropriate software.
* Assist with data destruction projects.
* Review File Audit data to identify trends and provide feedback.
* Assist with Data Subject Access Requests.
* Maintain and update current policies as needed.
* Draft new policies and implement new processes.
* Schedule and facilitate in-house compliance training.
* Provide effective and efficient compliance support to Fee Earners.
* Update compliance registers and records, and diarize critical dates.


Skills and Experience

* Basic understanding of relevant legislative and regulatory standards including:
o The SRA Codes of Conduct
o Anti-Money Laundering legislation
o Bribery and Data Protection legislation
* Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
* Ability to report, build, and analyze data.
* Attention to detail and accuracy.
* Strong planning and organizational skills.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Teamwork and cooperation.
* Flexibility and adaptability.
* Effective prioritization skills.
* Desire to develop existing knowledge.
* Commercial, professional, and client-focused approach to risk management.
* Strong analytical and research skills, with informed decision-making abilities.
* Self-motivated attitude.


Desirable Experience

* Previous experience as a Compliance Officer in a law firm or regulated industry.
* Experience with compliance software.
* Law degree or equivalent qualification.
* Industry compliance certifications.
