Teaching Assistant - Autism specialist

Alfreton

We're looking for a compassionate and skilled Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in the DE55 area from September 2025. This full-time role focuses on supporting pupils with Autism across Primary age ranges, providing tailored academic and emotional support in both one-to-one and small group settings.

You'll work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals (. autism specialists, speech and language therapists) to adapt learning materials, implement autism-friendly strategies, and contribute to EHCP reviews and SEN planning. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a lasting impact on children's confidence, communication, and learning.

Key Responsibilities

1. Deliver targeted support to KS2 pupils with autism, both 1:1 and in small groups
2. Use autism-informed approaches to adapt resources and learning environments
3. Support sensory regulation, social communication, and emotional wellbeing
4. Implement structured interventions (. visual timetables, social stories, TEACCH)
5. Track pupil progress and contribute to SEN reviews and EHCP meetings
6. Foster strong relationships with pupils, families, and the wider school team

Person Specification

Essential:

7. Experience supporting children with autism in a primary setting
8. Level 2/3 TA qualification or equivalent
9. Knowledge of autism strategies (. PECS, Zones of Regulation, sensory tools)
10. Patience, empathy, and a commitment to inclusive education

Desirable:

11. Experience working with KS2 pupils and EHCPs
12. Training in autism-specific approaches or trauma-informed practice
13. Familiarity with communication aids and sensory integration techniques
