In July 2024, the two charitable trusts that own Sherborne Boys, Sherborne Girls, Sherborne Prep, and Hanford, formally merged into one charity called the Sherborne Schools Group – a unique and exciting educational opportunity in the UK for girls and boys aged 3-19.
This merged Group includes Sherborne Schools Worldwide, a joint venture set up by Sherborne Boys and Sherborne Girls in 2017 to establish Sherborne-branded schools around the world.
Group Finance Director
Sherborne Schools Group is seeking to appoint an experienced and strategic Group Director of Finance to join the senior leadership team. This role will be central to the financial leadership and long-term sustainability of the Group, overseeing all aspects of financial strategy, operations, compliance, and reporting across multiple entities.
The Group Director of Finance will lead a high-performing Finance team, ensuring the delivery of an effective, efficient, and responsive finance function. Working closely with the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Director will contribute to the strategic development of the Group. They will oversee budgeting, financial planning, capital expenditure, and modelling, providing detailed analysis and insight to support informed decision-making by the senior leadership team, the Governors, and Trustees.
This role also includes responsibility for managing the Group’s financial systems and controls, ensuring compliance with all regulatory, taxation, and audit requirements. The Group Director of Finance will act as Company Secretary for subsidiary entities, maintaining all statutory records and filings. They will also oversee the production of termly management accounts and other reporting to stakeholders, and support the COO in delivering clear, timely, and accurate financial information.
Applicants should be fully qualified (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with substantial senior leadership experience bringing experience from a large and complex organisation, though the sector background is flexible. The role requires strong technical expertise, a strategic mindset, and excellent communication and leadership skills. The successful candidate will be motivated by the opportunity to support high-quality education through strong financial leadership.
