Could you help to keep the British Army's fleet of seagoing vessels fit to fight?
As Army Marine Engineers, we are responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing the Army's fleet of seagoing vessels, which are used to move soldiers, vehicles, and supplies worldwide.
As a Marine Engineer, you are an important part of the vessel’s crew and will be responsible for maintaining and repairing the craft and its engines. You will need to think quickly and solve problems daily. You should be naturally independent, self-motivated, and able to work well under pressure—if a vessel breaks down at sea, all eyes focus on the Marine Engineer! You will work alongside the Royal Fleet Auxiliary and support the Royal Marines, leading tasks such as hurricane and disaster relief.
Beyond engineering, there are opportunities to participate in Army sports and all forms of adventurous training.
Training for the Role
1. Start by training to be a soldier with your Reserve unit.
2. Then undertake a Marine Engineering course at the Defence School of Marine Engineering at MOD Lyneham. The course lasts 2 weeks, during which you'll carry out marine engineering as a Mexeflote 2nd Engineer. It is followed by two additional modules over five days covering seamanship and other skills. We aim to ensure that Army Reserve training fits with your day job.
Qualifications You Could Obtain After Training
* Cat C+E HGV driving licence
