About DVSA
The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) is a fascinating place in which to forge your career. Tasked with keeping Britain moving safely and sustainably, we have a significant impact not only on road safety, but also the life moments that can only be enjoyed when people can easily travel to their destinations. As a Driving Examiner you will be at the heart of this mission, helping ensure people get their driving future off to a great start. We are looking for proactive, friendly and safe drivers who would like to train to become fully qualified Driving Examiners.
Training and career start
We will provide all the training you need, to get your career off to an incredible start. Our test centres are grouped into clusters, so you will select a cluster local to you. After a job offer, you will start training online, then undertake practical training at a local test centre. You will have up to three weeks of guidance at one of our regional training facilities before embarking on a fulfilling and varied career in which you assess the readiness of drivers seeking to secure their licences.
What to expect day-to-day
On a daily basis, you will oversee seven driving examinations. You will meet people from all walks of life, and you will use your exceptional people skills to put nervous customers at ease while you guide them through your instructions. You will record results on a tablet and determine whether they meet the expected standards, delivering both positive and negative outcomes with tact and diplomacy.
To make the most of this challenge
It is important to us that every learner and driving instructor feels respected. You will have a deep appreciation for diversity and inclusivity, supported by excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills. You will be a calm, unflappable, safe driver who has held a UK or EU driving licence for at least three years. You must have no more than three penalty points on your licence and a good knowledge of the Highway Code and correct road procedures. You will be friendly and team-spirited, with a passion for setting standards that drivers will uphold for years to come.
What you can expect in return
A deeply satisfying career with ongoing training and development opportunities, plus an excellent work-life balance through flexible working options, 25 days of annual leave, all public holidays and an extra privilege day to mark the King's birthday. You will also receive additional benefits including an employer contribution to your pension of up to 27%.
So if you are ready to embark on an interesting career in which no two days will ever present you with the same experiences, then don’t hesitate to get in touch.
