We are looking for a part qualified Financial Accountant to join our fast-growing business and play a key role in strengthening our finance function. This is a newly created position designed to support the company's continued expansion and help build scalable financial processes and controls.
Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will be responsible for month end closing activities, balance sheet reconciliations, financial reporting and internal controls. We're looking for someone with deep technical understanding, clear and confidant communication skills, and a passion for creating structure and consistency as we continue to grow.
This Financial Accountant role would suit someone with 2/3 years experience in a finance role looking to take the next step in their career, potentially as their first move from practice into industry.
Key Responsibilities
* Ownership of the balance sheet, ensuring all items are reconciled to supporting documentation, such as prepayments, accruals and fixed asset register.
* Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely reporting and proper reconciliation of all accounts.
* Own the lease transition project to align FRS 102 with IFRS 16 for approx. 2500 leases.
* Oversee day-to-day accounts receivable activities, assisting with reconciliations and ensuring financial integrity across all financial records.
* Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns, providing analysis and commentary on variances and reconciliations.
* Ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal controls.
* Support external audits by providing necessary documentation and information.
* Analyse financial data to identify performance drivers and opportunities for improvement.
* Review and improve financial systems, controls, and procedures to support scalability, standardisation, and business growth.
* Develop and document accounting procedures, recommending process improvements and automation where appropriate.
* Collaborate with internal teams to support strategic projects that improve efficiency, strengthen financial governance, and contribute to the company's growth.
Personal Characteristics
Essential
* Strong technical knowledge of accounting principles and standards
* Part qualified in a professional finance qualification (ACCA/ACA)
* Understanding of financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cashflow)
* Proven experience in managing month end close processes
* Experience preparing VAT returns and ensuring compliance
* Ability to analyse financial data and identify trends, anomalies and opportunities for improvement
* Proficient Excel user (use of Xlookups, Pivots, SUMIFS etc.)
* Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in reporting.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently, take accountability and demonstrate commitment to meet deadlines
