JOB DESCRIPTION

REPORTING TO: Chief Executive

Type of contract: Full Time 37.5 hours (Mon- Fri) per week

Location: AVA Offices, Concept House, Cromwell Patk, York Road, Wetherby, LEEDS LS22 7SU. With UK travel for planning, events and member meetings.

SALARY: £34,000 - £36,000 p.a. (subject to experience)

Overview of the AVA

AVA: The Vending & Automated Retail Association is the voice of the £3.6bn refreshment vending and automated retail industry. Our diverse membership spans machine and component manufacturers, distributors, commodity suppliers and operators – the businesses that keep workplaces, public spaces and communities refreshed every day.

We are the trusted authority for the sector, representing members' interests to Government and key decision-makers, lobbying on critical policy issues, and driving industry-wide standards. The AVA logo is a recognised mark of quality, backed by a strict Code of Conduct and quality framework that ensures excellence across the industry.

Overall Purpose of the Role

This role offers a unique opportunity to make a visible impact in a dynamic industry. Working closely with the Chief Executive, you will take the lead on delivering engaging internal and external communications, shaping the Association's voice across multiple platforms. You will also play a pivotal role in planning and delivering high-profile events, managing training programmes, and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.

This is more than a communications role – it's a chance to influence, innovate and grow with an organisation that values creativity, initiative and results. We're looking for a driven, versatile communications and marketing professional who is ready to shape the role and make it their own.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead on all communications activity, working with our media/communications agency.
* Draft compelling press releases, positioning statements, and media content.
* Build and maintain targeted press lists and identify feature opportunities.
* Monitor and share industry coverage, ensuring members are kept informed.

Member Engagement

* Produce the monthly members' newsletter and regular email updates.
* Deliver engaging, consistent content across AVA's social media platforms, keeping our channels active, relevant and responsive.
* Develop collaborative links with communications teams at other trade associations.

Digital & Website

* Oversee website content with our IT partner, ensuring information is accurate, engaging, and up to date.
* Maintain and refresh online resources, research materials, and the Members' Area.
* Monitor website analytics and use insights to improve engagement.

Events & Training

* Plan and deliver a variety of AVA events, including:
* Regional Meetings (AVA Live: On-the-Road) – coordinate logistics, promotion and member engagement.
* Golf/Activity Days – oversee planning and delivery.
* Annual Christmas Luncheon & After Party – source venues and manage delivery with agency support.
* Webinars & Training Courses – support planning and smooth implementation.

Experience & Skills

We are seeking a candidate with:

* A strong track record in events, communications and PR strategy delivery.
* Hands-on experience in PR or communications roles.
* Proven ability to plan and deliver events of all sizes.
* Confidence in digital and social media, with experience in website management.
* Exceptional organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise, multitask and meet deadlines.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail and the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences.

Technical Proficiency

* Microsoft Office suite
* Email and online communication platforms
* Internet research and digital tools
* Report writing and presentation skills

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: £34,000.00-£36,000.00 per year
