Allen Lane is delighted to be supporting a Public Sector organisation in the appointment of an Application Lifecycle Manager on a permanent basis. This is a newly created role offering the opportunity to bring structure, visibility and strategic oversight to a large and complex application estate.
With a significant number of applications across the IT landscape, this role will take a “bird’s eye view” of how applications are managed end-to-end. From onboarding through to decommissioning. Ensuring a clear, efficient and well-governed lifecycle framework is in place. You will play a critical role in defining how the organisation understands, manages and optimises its application portfolio.
This is a hybrid role, with 3 days per week required in Birmingham.
The Role
As an Application Lifecycle manager you will:
* Establish and define the organisation’s application lifecycle management framework during the first 6 months
* Take ownership of the application service catalogue, bringing control and visibility to a previously fragmented estate
* Lead application rationalisation efforts, identifying opportunities to retire, replace or consolidate systems
* Oversee how applications are mapped to business capabilities, enabling better decision-making and alignment
* Provide insight and intelligence to support governance, including defining where decision-making sits across the organisation
* Work closely with service delivery and architecture teams to ensure applications are effectively managed within the wider IT ecosystem
* Ensure a pragmatic, value-driven approach to application management (e.g. using models such as Gartner’s TIME framework.
This role is not hands-on technical, but requires strong technical understanding alongside service management capability and strategic oversight.
About You
You will have a strong background in application lifecycle or service management within complex environments.
You will bring:
* Experience managing or overseeing large-scale application estates
* Strong understanding of application lifecycle management, service management and portfolio governance
* Experience designing or implementing frameworks, processes or operating models
* A track record of driving application rationalisation and improving efficiency
* The ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels
* Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across technical and non-technical teams
* A pragmatic mindset, able to balance best practice with real-world constraints
* Experience with tooling, cataloguing, or IT service management disciplines (e.g. ITIL-aligned environments) would be highly beneficial.
What’s on Offer
A salary between £46,000 - £55,000 plus a range of benefits which includes an additional flexible benefits fund of 20% (on top of base salary) and much more.
