* Salary: PO2 £39,862 - £42,839
* Hours: 37 hours per week
* Contract: Temporary until 31st March 2026
* Location: Civic Hall 1-2 days a week; hybrid working offered


About the role

We are seeking to appoint a temporary Assistant Finance Business Partner to work in the Leeds City Council Financial Services Team. We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive individual to join us as an Assistant Finance Business Partner. You will work closely with colleagues within Housing Leeds and City Development to support our Housing Investment and Growth Programmes. The job description is generic to reflect flexibility across Finance teams.

You can take advantage of flexible working patterns including our hybrid model. Staff within Financial Management currently work both in the office and from home, with an average of 1-2 days in the office per week depending on business need.


Responsibilities

* Build credible, collaborative relationships with officers and other stakeholders.
* Present clear financial information and options to decision makers using strong analytical and communication skills.
* Support Finance Business Partners to solve problems, plan and prioritise work to meet deadlines.
* Have a good knowledge of core finance processes and be part AAT qualified or equivalent as a minimum.


Job content and duties

* Provision of operational financial advice and management information to officers, members and other internal stakeholders to support decision-making and timely enquiries from external parties.
* Collaborate with senior officers and budget-holders to produce annual budgets, budget action plans, contingency plans, in-year monitoring reports, dashboards and financial health reports; develop rolling medium-term forecasts aligned with directorate plans.
* Provide financial information and analysis to support investment/disinvestment decisions and complex business cases.
* Promote stewardship of assets and resources, supporting directors to implement Internal Audit recommendations.
* Prepare year-end accounts and other financial returns.


Qualifications

* AAT part-qualified or equivalent, or substantial relevant experience in a financial environment.


Personal specification

* Ability to produce accurate, user-friendly financial analyses and dashboards using Excel and other systems.
* Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to support and advise colleagues and work as part of a team.
* Ability to analyse data and present clear, actionable insights.
* Ability to take initiative and improve service delivery while maintaining data accuracy.
