An established aerospace engineering organisation is seeking a Technical Author to join its engineering and maintenance support team based in Oxford.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically minded individual with experience interpreting complex engineering information and producing clear, user-friendly documentation that supports maintenance and operational activities.
The Role
As a Technical Author, you will be responsible for creating, managing and continuously improving technical work instructions used by engineers and technicians carrying out maintenance activities on highly regulated aviation assets.
Working closely with maintenance managers, planning engineers and shop floor personnel, you'll transform complex technical data into clear, logical and easy-to-follow documentation that ensures maintenance tasks are completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with approved procedures.
Key Responsibilities
* Produce detailed task cards and work instructions from technical manuals, maintenance data and service bulletins
* Translate complex engineering information into clear, sequential documentation for engineering teams
* Ensure robust document and revision control processes are maintained
* Verify that technicians are always working to the latest approved maintenance data
* Work directly with engineers and technicians to validate the practicality and usability of technical instructions
* Support continuous improvement activities by gathering user feedback and updating documentation accordingly
* Collaborate with engineering, planning and maintenance teams to ensure technical documentation meets operational requirements
* Maintain high levels of accuracy and compliance within a regulated engineering environment
What We're Looking For
* Experience producing technical documentation within an engineering environment
* Ability to interpret complex technical information and communicate it clearly in written form
* Strong attention to detail and document control experience
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital documentation systems
* Strong organisational and administrative skills
* Ability to engage with multiple stakeholders and extract key technical information
* Logical problem-solving and analytical thinking skills
Desirable Experience
* Aerospace or aviation maintenance experience
* Knowledge of Part 145 and/or Part CAMO environments
* Exposure to maintenance planning activities
* Experience working with engineering document management systems
* Understanding of regulated maintenance and airworthiness processes
Qualifications
* Engineering qualification (Level 3 or equivalent) as a minimum
* Aviation or maintenance-related training would be advantageous
