Title: Art Bridges Registration Assistant
Reports to: Chief Registrar
Status: Part time, 10 hours per week, 18 months
The Registration department at the Birmingham Museum of Art seeks a Registration Assistant to fill a fixed-term position supported by the Museum’s partnership with the Art Bridges Mid-South Cohort. This position will support the Registration department in advancing the Museum’s work on the two exhibitions produced by the Art Bridges cohort, including the BMA-organized From Scratch: Art and Southern Food. This work will include supporting these exhibitions and supporting the daily work of the Registration department.
This is a fixed-term position working ten (10) hours per week for an eighteen-month, temporary assignment. The Registration Assistant will report to the Chief Registrar and build relationships with other members of the Registration department, colleagues in the departments of Conservation, Preparation, and Curatorial, and colleagues across the Museum.
Responsibilities
* Condition reporting
* Basic cataloguing
* Work with object files
* Assist with rights and reproductions work
* Administrative duties, including purchasing card reconciliation and filing
* Support the Assistant Registrar and collections team with aspects of exhibition planning and implementation as needed
* Aid the collections team during installations
* Other duties as assigned
Ideal Experience
* BA, MA, or MLIS degree in Museum Studies, Library and Information Sciences, Art History, or a related field; we will consider candidates pursuing an advanced degree
* Experience with or interest in learning about art museum Registration work
* Proficiency with Google Drive
* Strong organizational skills with strict attention to detail and accuracy
* Excellent time management, planning, and teamwork skills
* Ability to work independently
