A vacancy across Norfolk & Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, recruiting into the Clinical Coding team for the Norfolk & Waveney University Hospitals Group.
Full support and training is provided by the departmental senior team along a natural pay‑band progression.
Working Approach
Flexible working patterns including onsite, from‑home and remote coding are supported. Coding skills are developed or maintained through the Training and Audit programme delivered by in‑house NHS Classifications Service Approved Trainers and Auditors. Candidates may express a preference to work at any of the Group sites or apply for hybrid arrangements.

Senior Clinical Coder (Band 5)
We seek motivated and enthusiastic Accredited Clinical Coders (holding the National Clinical Coding Qualification), compliant with mandatory Standards Refresher Course requirements within the last 3 years, and experienced in coding across a wide range of specialties in an acute hospital setting.
* Extract clinical information from discharged, transferred and RIP patients’ case notes, discharge letters and clinical systems, translating accurately into ICD and OPCS codes for all inpatient Consultant Episodes using 3M’s Medicode encoder system.
* Complete and input all FCEs by monthly Performance Management (Trust) deadlines.
* Participate in departmental audit programme: own work audit and data validation of specific coding issues.
* Raise coding or data issues with management and work to resolve.
* Ensure output is monitored to contribute fully to departmental workload.
* Participate in and support the departmental training programme: attend internal training programmes and mentor junior coders.
* Ensure adherence to clinical coding policies and procedures.
* Be part of the digital journey and help shape future clinical coding requirements.
Clinical Coding Officer (Band 4)
Partially qualified coders with a background in anatomy and physiology and an interest in complex information are encouraged to apply.
* Attend and pass an in‑house clinical coding standards course.
* Under supervision extract and code all inpatient episodes to national rules and conventions.
* Assist the coding team in meeting monthly coding deadlines.
* Participate in quality assurance of own work and ensure full departmental workload contribution.
* Raise coding and/or data issues to the mentor team.
* Maintain and develop coding skills.
* Assist the team in reflecting patient care through accurately coded data.
Trainee Clinical Coding Officer (Band 3)
Suitable for trainees and partially qualified candidates interested in the clinical coding profession.
* Attend and complete a formal classroom‑based clinical coding standards course (in‑house).
* Under supervision extract and code all inpatient episodes to national rules and conventions.
* Assist the coding team in completing coding to meet monthly deadlines.
* Participate in quality assurance of own work and ensure full departmental workload contribution.
* Raise coding or data issues to the mentor team.
* Maintain and develop coding skills.
* Assist the team in reflecting patient care through accurately coded data.
