Job Opportunity: Children and Young People’s Learning Disability Nurse

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an innovative nurse to work within the Community Learning Disability Nursing Service, specifically with children and young people. This team operates within the wider Learning Disability Service.

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated nurse who is ready to embrace the challenges of this dynamic role. Candidates must be a first-level registered nurse in Learning Disability, Mental Health, or Children’s Nursing, with current UK NMC registration. Some experience working with children, young people, or adults with learning disabilities is essential.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to work across professional boundaries, possess a strong teamwork ethic, and have the aspiration to develop their clinical skills.

This role involves providing specialist assessment, care planning, and care evaluation for children and young people with learning disabilities who may also require support for mental illness, autism, challenging behaviour, or ADHD.

Excellent communication skills are required, along with the ability to collaborate with the wider Health and Social Care Team, Education, and Voluntary Agencies. The role also requires autonomy, initiative, and sound clinical judgment.

You will support and deputise for the Senior Children and Young People’s Learning Disability Nurse and contribute to service development.

As this is a community-based position, travel across Fife will be necessary.

The service is committed to ongoing supervision, support, and continuous professional development for its staff.

For informal enquiries, please contact Claire McCulloch, Senior Charge Nurse at Lynebank Hospital on 01383 623623 ext 35318, or Wendy McConville, Interim Lead Nurse, at ext 35104.

A requirement of this post is to become a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme prior to appointment.

NHS Fife is legally obliged to ensure all employees have the right to work in the UK. Non-UK or Irish nationals must confirm their right to work in their application.

We support flexible working, family-friendly policies, and make reasonable adjustments for disabled candidates, candidates with long-term conditions, or neurodivergent individuals.

NHS Scotland is committed to diversity and equality, aiming for a workforce that is representative and inclusive. We welcome applications from all sections of society.
