Join to apply for the Consultant Gastroenterologist role at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust.
The North Cumbria GI Service is a new, cohesive and integrated department, combining gastroenterology and endoscopy, upper gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, colorectal and emergency GI surgery. The successful candidate will join a team of gastroenterologists supported by nurse specialists in IBD and hepatology across North Cumbria NHS Trust. Sub specialty interests will be encouraged where this contributes to the department and Trust service needs.
The post is a Locum Consultant Gastroenterologist position. Appointees will be part of the general gastroenterology service across the Trust, with future configurations focusing complex inpatient work at the Carlisle site and elective outpatient services (endoscopy and outpatient clinics) provided by the team across the Trust.
Responsibilities
* Provide an integrated digestive diseases service across North Cumbria, contributing to all aspects of the general gastroenterology service.
* Be part of a team of gastroenterologists and GI surgeons; contribute to in-patient and outpatient care, including endoscopy and related services.
* Participate in the Trust's transformation program and the model for acute medical care.
* Cover on-call commitments, including Out of Hours GI Bleed cover (as part of the on-call rota).
* Support the development and use of dedicated GI wards, endoscopy units, and GI physiology labs across sites.
Qualifications and requirements
* You must be on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT to be eligible for appointment to this post.

Employment details
* Base unit assignment with contributions expected across the Trust's gastroenterology service.
* The standard job plan attracts 10-12 programmed activities (PAs).
* Relocation assistance of up to £4,000 may be available for successful applicants moving to the region.
* The Trust has ongoing development plans including endoscopy capacity expansion (new 5-room Endoscopy Unit planned to open in 2025).
