Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) is a faith-based humanitarian relief and development organisation working to save and transform the lives of some of the world’s most vulnerable people. Established in 1984, with an active presence in over 45 countries, we strive to make the world a better and fairer place for those affected by poverty, conflict and natural disasters.
IRW’s International Programme Division is recruiting for the position of ‘Eastern European Representative’ to join its dynamic team based out of its offices in Albania, Kosovo or Bosnia.
Purpose of the role
The Eastern Europe Representative will have operational responsibilities for countries in Eastern Europe and will provide leadership on the strategic development in line with IR global strategy and regional direction. The Eastern Europe Representative will line manage Country Directors.
Work collaboratively with the Programme Operations unit within the region to ensure that productive working relationships are maintained across the region and within countries to deliver high quality programme development and implementation.
* To represent Islamic Relief In eastern Europe
* To provide the strategic direction and effective management for eastern Europe countries, ensuring development, continued improvement in quality and impact, and effective financial and human resource management in line with global strategies and regional priorities
* To strengthen Islamic Relief’s relations with bilateral embassies, UN agencies, wider humanitarian and development community to consolidate and develop the visibility of the organisation
* Responsible for the strategic development of IR programming in the Eastern Europe by maximizing the support to the development of country programmes as well as by exploring and creating synergies among them. Ensure that the strategy remains relevant to the changing context, that programme/projects are implemented according to IR global standards
* To ensure the efficient and proper use of funds and assets, securing and monitoring implementation of IRW policies and processes for financial control and reporting, and taking prompt action to tackle variances and control gaps
* Liaise and work collaboratively with Regional Programme Operations unit to ensure provision of technical backstopping, support and information-sharing to country offices in Sahel.
The successful candidate must have:
* Holds extensive experience in a senior position with an International NGO.
* Experience in managing people remotely.
* Proven track record of working with INGOs in developing countries in Rehabilitation, development and emergency contexts.
* Substantial experience and knowledge of effective budgetary control and grant management
* Experience of successful fundraising and dealing with EC, ECHO, UN and DFID
* Experience of and commitment to participatory management and maintaining a supportive, open environment to ensure the learning and development of all staff is essential.
* Experience of managing and mentoring local and international staff.
* Good interpersonal skills including the ability to listen, sensitivity to others’ views and perspectives, and conflict resolution.
* Excellent written and spoken English. Other languages of the region are a plus
