Askham Village Community Askham Rehab is a provision of care and rehabilitation services in Doddington, Cambs. Askham Rehab boasts 3 purpose built provision, including resident training rooms focused around reablement/rehab, 4 specialist apartments which hydraulic equipment to be be able to tailor the environment to the needs of the resident. two satellite gyms, a full neuro robotics faciality and Hydrotherapy pool.

So what's the details of the role I hear you ask?
You will be providing Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions within an assessment unit for people with complex needs. This is a health care setting where you will be working alongside physiotherapists, Psychologists, Therapy Assistants, Educators, specialist nurse, and support workers. Working as part of a multi professional clinical team, you will be responsible for assessment of an individual's Occupational Therapy needs, and delivery of 1:1 and group interventions.
Alongside this, you will also be providing training, support, and consultation to the team working with the service users. This includes key workers within the home and teaching staff within the service-specific education provision. As a developing service,
Main duties
1. To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work, including the management of patients in your care and the maintenance of documentation to COT standards and Askham Policies and Procedures requirements.
2. To provide assessments, goal setting, treatments and evaluations for patients with a wide range of complex physical, sensory and cognitive problems.
3. To provide clinical supervision and in service training to therapy assistants, nurses and carers to develop some specialist skills within a neurological setting.
4. To represent and promote the specialist roles of the MDT at Askham including involvement in service planning and development.
5. To arrange and ensure follow through on the assessment of therapy needs for people with varying types/degrees of disabilities and the development, implementation and evaluation of goal-based programmes of therapy for all Service Users residing at Askham Homes together with all Day Care / Outpatient clients
6. To build working relationships with professionals and services external to Askham as needed to meet the needs of Askham Service Users
7. To ensure that communication between the Residents, their families, and the Home is appropriate and effective
8. To be aware of the optimal level of occupational therapy input for each Askham Service User, and work with Managers, senior staff, and staff to get as close to this as possible, within funding constraints
9. To represent the Board/Head of Nursing when required to do so, for example in the event of a visit from the Inspector of CQC
10. To influence stock control and equipment selection, working in partnership with key personnel to ensure assessments are completed, recommendations are made and followed through appropriately to action
11. To liaise with individual Home Nurse Care Managers and Activities Co-ordinators where appropriate to implement a schedule of planned activities for service users and day care clients to compliment and ensure therapy / activity sessions take place
12. To be responsible for maintaining own competency to practice through CPD activities and maintain a portfolio which reflects personal development in accordance with the Health Professions Council's recommendations.
13. Identify unmet needs and gaps in service provision and highlight these to the Therapy & Clinical Support Co-ordinator; make recommendations for change to the Therapy & Clinical Support Co-ordinator and develop improvements to service delivery and clinical practice.
14. To maintain patient confidentiality at all times and to comply with Data Protection legislation.
15. To be responsible for the safe and competent use of therapy equipment through teaching, training and practice.
16. To ensure risk assessments are carried out and implemented within the area of responsibility, including compliance with existing risk assessments relating to patients, residents and staff at all times.
17. To be aware of and comply with Askham Policies eg Risk Management, Fire, Disciplinary and Grievance Procedures.
18. To participate in individual performance management process and reviews.
19. To attend Askham orientation programmes and mandatory training sessions and annual updates; to input to orientation and training as appropriate for the role
20. To be appraised at least annually and participate in supervisions at least every other month
21. To have knowledge of Health & Safety requirements to ensure a safe working environment. To bring any identified risk to the attention of senior management following the Incident, Serious Incidents and Near Misses reporting policy and procedure.
Experience with neurological caseload is desirable.
