About the Role
We’re looking for a skilled and detail-focused Machine Customisation Engineer to join our team at our Hamilton depot.
In this hands-on role, you’ll be responsible for preparing Komatsu excavators for customer delivery—carrying out pre-delivery inspections, completing machine customisations to specification, and ensuring all work is delivered accurately and on time. You’ll also troubleshoot faults, carry out repairs, and install specialist systems to meet customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Complete pre-delivery inspections (PDI)
Customise new machines to customer specifications
Carry out bodywork paint touch-ups to manufacturer standards
Diagnose and resolve faults, escalating where required
Carry out repairs and replace parts as needed
Install and calibrate 3DMG systems on Komatsu excavators
Install and calibrate systems such as X-Watch, Safety Shield and Tilt Rotators
Complete Field Campaign work as required
Set up attachment flows and pressures for customer equipment
Report defects promptly to the Workshop Chargehand

Work completed accurately and within agreed timeframes
Faults resolved efficiently
Specialist tools maintained and controlled appropriately
Full compliance with Health & Safety procedures
Accurate daily job reports completed via the Service Tech app
Person Specification
Essential:
Strong commitment to Health & Safety
Mechanical experience, including installations and basic electrics
Experience working with heavy construction plant machinery, including hydraulic excavators
Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
Good attention to detail and ability to work to deadlines
Basic IT skills (e.g. Microsoft D365 or similar systems)
Strong communication skills with a proactive, team-focused approach
Flexible and adaptable with a positive attitude
Desirable:
Counterbalance Forklift Truck Licence
Experience with a construction equipment OEM or dealer
Experience with systems such as X-Watch, Safety Shield, Machine Control or Tilt Rotators
SPA or CSCS certification
