We're looking for an experienced leader to take the position of General Manager within our Transportation business based in Glastonbury. This role supports our prestigious highways maintenance contract, helping to manage and maintain Somerset Council's Road network. As General Manager, you'll lead a talented team delivering exceptional services for our client, while benefiting from strong support from the senior leadership team.

Location: Glastonbury, Somerset - travel to the office required with some remote working available
Hours: Permanent Fulltime 40 hours per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us
Salary: up to £95,000 per year + 25% bonus opportunity + £7,350 annual car allowance + private healthcare + benefits
What will you be responsible for?
As General Manager, you'll be part of the senior leadership team, driving delivery of the contract and ensuring a focus on intelligent asset management solutions, professional services, reactive and planned maintenance, cyclical works, and winter maintenance while always prioritising safety and compliance with contractual processes.
Your day to day will include:
• Ensuring compliance with all Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality policies
• Promoting team wellbeing and fostering an inclusive workplace that values diverse perspectives and experiences
• Working in partnership with Somerset Council to optimise resources, achieve financial targets, and grow third-party works
• Leading or contributing to business improvement initiatives in line with wider contract objectives, analysing performance, presenting solutions, and supporting implementation
• Chairing governance meetings, managing stakeholder relationships including councillors and clients effectively
• Representing Kier as part of the Local Authorities management team and client forum
What are we looking for?
This role of General Manager is great if you have:
• Experience leading high-performing reactive and planned operational teams
• Proven leadership, organisational, and communication skills
• Experience working with local authority clients and political stakeholders
• A solid background in asset management and professional services with sound commercial and contractual knowledge particularly of NEC contracts and a thorough understanding of health & safety practices
