We’re looking for an Environmental Engineer to help drive continuous improvement across our site in Hartlepool. This is an opportunity to be part of a wider journey towards carbon neutrality and to shape the way we manage environmental risk and compliance at one of the UK’s leading industrial businesses. What you will do: You’ll be the go-to person for environmental compliance and support at our Hartlepool site, working alongside operations, maintenance, and technical teams. Whether it's helping us meet legal requirements, liaising with the Environment Agency, or identifying and delivering improvements, you’ll be playing a key role in how we manage our environmental responsibilities day-to-day. Your responsibilities will include: Supporting compliance with environmental legislation and permitting obligations. Monitoring and reporting on environmental performance—air, water, waste and more. Carrying out site inspections and internal audits to drive best practice. Assisting with risk assessments and supporting accident investigations. Engaging with a wide range of internal teams and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies. Driving local initiatives that contribute to site-wide and company-wide sustainability targets. It’s a role that combines technical knowledge with strong communication and relationship-building skills—and your input will directly contribute to improving environmental standards in a heavy industrial environment. What you will need: We’re looking for someone with a solid foundation in environmental management, ideally from a manufacturing, industrial, or regulated background. You’ll need: A relevant degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field. Working knowledge of UK environmental legislation and regulatory frameworks. Strong analytical and reporting skills. Good communication abilities to influence and engage with teams at all levels. A proactive and organised approach to identifying and solving problems. Experience with Environmental Permitting Regulations (EPR) or ISO 14001 implementation would be a bonus, as would experience working with the Environment Agency or similar bodies.
