Overview
Uppingham School, founded in 1584, is one of Britain’s leading co-educational independent boarding schools. It is located in Uppingham, Rutland. The Sports Centre is a dual-use facility for the School and the local community, featuring a sports hall, 25m swimming pool, gym, squash courts and dance studios. In December 2021, the fitness suite was refurbished to a 60-station gym. The Centre is managed on a commercial basis, with a client-focused team representing the School and the enterprise company in the local community.
Job Purpose
To deliver safe, fun and effective swimming lessons to children and adults of all ages through the USSC Swim School programme of lessons.
Responsibilities
* Plan and deliver lessons at Uppingham School Sports Centre following the current programme of teaching (Learn to Swim Swim England).
* Teach with full regard to health and safety, coordinating and communicating with other teachers, assistants and lifeguards regarding each class and the supervision/layout required.
* Log and report any incidents/accidents or other concerns to the facility Duty Manager.
* Report safety concerns or health and safety issues to the Activity Co-ordinator and Duty Manager.
* Ensure lesson programs are safe and appropriate to the needs/abilities of participants and provide supervision and assistance to all participants.
* Present and conduct yourself with courtesy and regard for others; wear suitable clothing for teaching in the water and uniform when out of water or on site.
* Maintain qualifications, keeping them up to date and relevant.
* Attend team meetings, training sessions, employee reviews and CPD courses as recommended.
* Contribute to secondary activity ASA courses and NPLQ, etc.
* Welcome all participants in a professional and friendly manner.
* Prepare effectively to deliver lessons to a high standard as outlined in the Swim School Programme.
* Ensure all equipment is used correctly and within Health & Safety guidelines.
* Instruct and provide feedback and encouragement to all participants during lessons.
* Direct bookings or inquiries to the Front of House team / Swim Manager.
* Promote progression through the Learn to Swim Programme, including additional badges, Rookie Lifeguard and Stages 8+.

Qualifications
* ASA Teachers Level 2 Swimming Teacher Qualification
* NRASTC Qualification
Skills and Experience
* Ability to instruct clients of varying ages and abilities
* Excellent communication
* Good organisational skills
* Proven track record of teaching swimming
* Knowledge of Learn to Swim (Swim England)
Terms and Conditions
Location: Uppingham
Working Hours: 6 hours per week, 13 weeks per year
Shifts Available: Monday 16:00 - 18:45 and Wednesday 15:45 - 19:00
Salary: £20.49 per hour
