Job role: Court of Protection Solicitor (Health & Welfare) / Mental Health Law

The Role
We are seeking compassionate and motivated solicitors to join our specialist team, undertaking Court of Protection Health and Welfare work and/or Mental Health Law, with a greater emphasis on Court of Protection matters.
This is an opportunity to work in a highly rewarding area of law, supporting and representing extremely vulnerable clients at some of the most challenging times in their lives. The role involves a busy and varied court-based practice, acting in complex and sensitive cases where empathy, resilience, and strong advocacy skills are essential.
We welcome applications from solicitors with existing experience in Court of Protection or Mental Health Law, as well as candidates interested in retraining into this specialist area.
Key Responsibilities
* Managing a caseload of Court of Protection (Health & Welfare) matters and/or Mental Health Law cases
* Representing clients in court proceedings, including urgent and contested hearings
* Acting in the best interests of vulnerable individuals, often involving complex medical, social care, and family dynamics
* Working closely with clients, families, professionals, and external agencies
* Maintaining high professional and ethical standards while handling sensitive and emotionally challenging matters
About You
* A qualified solicitor (or equivalent)
* Experience in Court of Protection Health & Welfare and/or Mental Health Law is desirable but not essential (if no relevant experience you must have transferable skills and a keen interested in those areas of law to be considered)
* An interest in working with vulnerable clients and in a client-focused, values-driven practice
* Strong communication skills and the ability to deal sensitively with challenging situations
* Ability to manage a busy court-based caseload effectively
We are happy to consider candidates from other areas of law who are keen to retrain. Useful transferable skills may include:
* Experience dealing with vulnerable or challenging clients
* A background in litigation or a busy court practice
* Strong advocacy, case management, and organisational skills
Training & Support
