Yard Operative / Van Driver - Witham Timber
We are currently looking for a friendly and reliable Yard Operative / Van Driver to join our dedicated team at Witham Timber. You will play a key part in delivering materials, assisting customers, and keeping our yard running smoothly—helping us maintain our reputation for excellent service and safety standards.
Main Responsibilities – Yard Operative and Delivery Driver
* Load, secure, and deliver timber, building, and fencing materials to customer locations using a company van
* Provide a professional, efficient delivery service with great customer interaction
* Help customers in the yard with enquiries, product selection, and vehicle loading
* Work with deliveries and goods‑in, ensuring stock is safely received and organised
* Carry out regular vehicle safety checks and report any defects promptly
* Keep delivery and stock records accurate and up to date
* Contribute to a culture of safety by following all health and safety policies
* Maintain a clean, organised, and hazard‑free yard environment
* Support colleagues across the branch and contribute to a positive team atmosphere
Essential Skills & Experience
* Full UK driving licence with van driving experience (required)
* Experience working in a yard, builders’ merchant, warehouse, or similar environment (required)
* Strong communication skills and a helpful, positive approach to customers
* Responsible, punctual, and committed to excellent attendance
* Physically capable of safely handling and lifting building products
* Basic understanding of health and safety procedures
* Team player, keen to learn and willing to help others as required
Working Hours
This is a full‑time, permanent role. Working hours are Monday to Friday 07:30 – 17:00, plus 1 in 2 Saturday mornings (08:00 – 12:00).
