The Role: Product Development Manager for the Matron system is responsible for cross‑sector development and successful customer roll‑out, ensuring alignment with the triple constraints of budget, timing, and scope. This individual leads a multi‑disciplinary team across system engineering, product marketing, project management, manufacturing, and field service operations in the creation, execution and updating of the development master plan. While this position does not have direct reports, the Product Development Manager operates as “first among equals” and is empowered by company leadership to guide and oversee the product’s lifecycle and execution.
Responsibilities
* Develop and maintain a master plan for the product development cycle, including system requirements, design strategies, implementation schedules, milestones, and resource allocations.
* Lead the cross‑functional product development team, consisting of managers from system engineering, product marketing, project management, manufacturing, and field service operations.
* Ensure adherence to the triple constraint (budget, timing, scope) throughout the product development lifecycle.
* Conduct frequent customer interactions to validate assumptions, gather feedback, and adjust the development process and master plan as needed.
* Communicate with internal and external stakeholders, including company leadership and major customers, to ensure transparency and alignment in system development progress and goals.
* Collaborate closely with company leadership to align product development objectives with organizational strategy.
* Identify risk areas within the program and develop mitigation strategies to address issues effectively.
* Manage ongoing changes in requirements, scope, budget, or schedule while maintaining alignment with stakeholders and team members.
* Build strong relationships across teams to foster collaboration and achieve optimal results.
* Align product development goals with metrics to track performance and ensure product quality, manufacturability, and service readiness.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in engineering, management, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
* Proven experience in product development, preferably in semiconductor metrology, inspection systems, or other high‑technology industries.
* Strong leadership and coordination skills with a proven ability to manage cross‑functional teams.
* Demonstrated expertise in managing the triple constraints of budget, scope, and schedule.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting effectively with customers, internal teams, and company leadership.
* Ability to interpret and validate customer requirements and translate them into actionable development plans.
* Proficiency in project management tools and methodologies, such as Agile or Waterfall.
* Strong technical acumen to facilitate collaboration with system engineering, field service and manufacturing teams.
* Experience managing complex, high‑impact projects with competing priorities.
Key Relationships
* Reports directly to company leadership.
* Collaborates with system engineering, product marketing, project management, manufacturing, and field service teams to ensure seamless execution across sectors.
* Interfaces with customers regularly to validate product assumptions and ensure alignment with market needs.
* Acts as a key communicator to internal and external stakeholders regarding product development progress, changes, and milestones.
Empowerment and Leadership
While the Product Development Manager does not have direct reports, he/she operates as the first among equals within the product team and is granted authority by company leadership to lead the cross‑sector development efforts. This role requires both strategic vision and operational execution, ensuring that the product meets company objectives while satisfying customer needs.
