Offer description

Horizon Teachers are working with a forward‑thinking Pupil Referral Unit in Haringey that supports both primary and secondary‑aged pupils who are unable to access mainstream education due to social, emotional, and behavioural needs. They are now seeking a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Mentor to join their team.

About the Behaviour Mentor Role

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will support pupils aged approximately 5–16, providing both academic and pastoral support tailored to individual needs. You will work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to implement effective behaviour strategies, promote emotional regulation, and encourage positive engagement with learning. The role requires flexibility, patience, and a calm, consistent approach, as you will be supporting pupils with a wide range of complex behavioural and emotional needs.

Key Responsibilities as a Behaviour Mentor

* Providing 1:1 and small group behaviour support across primary and secondary phases.
* Supporting pupils in managing behaviour, emotions, and engagement in learning.
* Implementing tailored behaviour strategies and de‑escalation techniques.
* Building strong, positive relationships with pupils to encourage trust and progress.
* Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff.
* Contributing to a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment.

Requirements

* Previous experience working with children or young people with challenging behaviour.
* Experience supporting either primary, secondary, or mixed‑age cohorts.
* Strong behaviour management and de‑escalation skills.
* A calm, resilient, and empathetic approach.
* Ability to build rapport with pupils who may be disengaged from education.
* Team Teach (or similar) qualification is desirable, but not essential.

As part of your registration process, you'll need an enhanced DBS check and we will need to see and copy your original qualifications before any placement.

Teaching roles require Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.

Why Horizon Teachers?

* One‑to‑one support from a dedicated and experienced education consultant
* Free accredited safeguarding training as part of your registration
* Referral bonuses available: £150 for referring a TA/support worker, £300 for referring a teacher (T&Cs apply)
* A highly trusted agency with an excellent 4.8* Google rating

We're proud to be an inclusive employer, welcoming applicants from all backgrounds and committed to creating accessible opportunities across education.
