Job Description
As the Drives Control Application Software Engineer, you will take part in the development of Control Application Software for GE Vernova’s range of Electric Drive Systems. You will play a key role in the entire product development life cycle and collaborate as part of a wider multi-disciplinary team.
In this role you will focus on:
1. Specifying, designing, coding, validating, and maintaining application software for megawatt-scale power electronic drive systems for Marine, Naval, Energy and Industrial applications.
2. Validation of Application Software using Hardware In the Loop (HIL) rigs and Laboratory test drives.
3. Writing application software that interfaces to other peripheral equipment.
4. Supporting commissioning and validation of electrical drive systems.
5. Ensuring your designs meet performance and reliability requirements.
6. Integrating control software into larger systems and verifying their functionality.
7. Collaboration with cross-functional teams.
8. Writing technical documentation.
9. Travelling to customer sites for meetings or equipment validation, typically a few times per year for a duration of a few days up to 2 weeks.
We are looking for a committed and professional individual with:
1. Sole British citizenship ('UK EYES ONLY')
2. A relevant degree in Electrical, Electronics, Software Engineering or equivalent skills, or some experience in a software engineering environment.
3. A basic understanding of programming principles of electrical machines, electrical drives, converters, etc.
4. An ability to translate high level design requirements into efficient and robust software.
5. Familiarity with the principles of converter system and power converter topologies for AC/DC, DC/AC and DC to DC converter systems, etc.
6. Valid passport to meet travel requirements.
7. Possession of or eligibility to obtain UK security clearance to SC clearance level or higher.
What will make you stand out:
1. A background in writing PLC application software.
2. Experience working with Variable Speed Drives Application Software (current source drives, voltage source drives).
3. Experience writing control software for Variable Frequency Drives and machine control (induction machines, synchronous machines, permanent magnet machines, etc.).
4. Experience using MATLAB/Simulink or similar tools.
