Overview
An opportunity has arisen for a Community Maternity Support Worker with an existing NVQ 3 (or equivalent) qualification as identified on the person specification to work within a community midwifery team. Although based in Newton Abbot, you will also provide cross cover to the other midwifery teams in the Torbay and South Devon locality.
Responsibilities
* Support the integrated midwifery service with the provision of safe, effective and evidence-based care to all women and their families using the maternity services, including clinical activities, admin and clerical duties and housekeeping, while liaising with the Midwives.
* Clinical responsibilities involve support of new parents, parent education, feeding support, venepuncture and undertaking new-born blood spot tests.
* Liaise with other members of the multidisciplinary team (e.g. Health Visitors, GPs, Children\'s Centres) regarding mothers and babies, respecting confidentiality at all times.
* Assist in the provision of high-quality care to mothers and babies.
* Undertake tasks and duties for which midwifery training is not required on both mothers and babies and report any deviations from normal parameters to the midwife.
* Carry out additional tasks as delegated by the Registered Midwife once appropriate training has been given (see responsibility).
* As a member of a multi-professional team, contribute to effective communication and its relevance to care provision, including sensitive information and bereavement support.
* Provide direct care to women and babies as directed by the midwife, reporting any deviation from normal to the midwife.
* Work to relevant Trust procedures, standards and policies ensuring safe care at all times.
Qualifications
NVQ 3 (or equivalent) as identified on the person specification.

* An ability to travel efficiently around the Bay to carry out duties.
