Offer description

The Home Office works to build a safe, fair, and prosperous UK. We achieve this through our work on counter-terrorism, policing, fire, crime, drugs policy, immigration, and passports.

Corporate and Delivery Directorate works closely with the Home Office’s policy and operational commands to enable us to deliver the department’s priorities.

The directorate comprises different teams and professional functions, including Commercial, Finance, People, Portfolio and Project Delivery, Security, Estates, and Information and Digital, Data, and Technology.

The Finance Directorate is one of the most dynamic and forward-looking places to work. We provide professional finance advice and challenge to ensure that the Home Office delivers value for money to the taxpayer and protects the Accounting Officers in their responsibilities for regularity, propriety, value for money, and feasibility on all spending decisions. We ensure that finance is at the heart of decision-making and operate a business partner model to support strategic planning, operational control, and managing challenging budgets through effective financial reporting, management, and planning.

Accounting Operations Unit sits at the heart of Home Office finance. We are responsible for key functions including Corporate Reporting, HMT Reporting, Management Accounting, and Financial Reporting, and are currently expanding in size and scope. This is an exciting time to join the Accounting Operations Unit due to the roles' scope, fast-changing environment, and the opportunity to deliver on Ministerial priorities. We seek dynamic and innovative individuals eager to advance their careers and be part of one of the most interesting and high-profile Government Departments.

The Head of Unit Costing & Income Modelling will lead the Fees & Income Planning Team’s programme of unit costing work and income modelling to support the department’s broader funding strategy. This role involves line management of 2 SEOs and plays a critical role in developing key finance products, including departmental transparency returns and the Annual Reports and Accounts. The role has a transformation focus, having initiated efforts to streamline and simplify existing cost models and processes to improve efficiency and assurance. It also supports responses to high-priority Ministerial requests for fee modelling to inform funding strategies, including during Spending Reviews, working with Finance Business Partners and Home Office Analysis and Insight to ensure forecasts are robust, consistent, and reflective of latest policy and operational developments.

We value every member of our Finance Directorate and maintain high expectations. We offer development opportunities through formal training, on-the-job learning, and lateral moves to acquire new skills. We support staff pursuing finance qualifications with paid study leave and exam support. Promotion opportunities are available within Finance and across the Home Office.

The Home Office Finance group is dedicated to promoting equality and valuing diversity. We are committed to enabling talented and hardworking individuals to succeed regardless of background. Personal qualities are as important as professional experience, and we welcome applications from all backgrounds. If you believe you possess the skills and qualities we seek, we encourage you to apply.

We have several roles currently available in the Accounting Operations Unit and Fees & Income Planning, with a reserve list in place for future opportunities. We currently seek candidates for Management Accounting and Costing & Income Modelling roles. Additional roles may become available, and preferences will be discussed during the interview process. More information about each role can be provided at that stage.
