Offer description

Write a short description of your company, a boilerplate of the business, service or product that you offer. Include your business idea and the target audience. This text is primarily supposed to be descriptive, not selling.

A well-regarded secondary school in York is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Teacher of Geography to join its successful Humanities department. This is an excellent opportunity for a Geography specialist who is passionate about strong classroom practice, enquiry-led learning and helping students develop a deeper understanding of the physical and human world.

The school has a strong focus on academic progress, clear behaviour routines and a calm learning environment where pupils are supported to achieve and take pride in their work. Staff benefit from supportive leadership, consistent systems and a collaborative department where teachers share resources and work together to improve outcomes.

About the Role

As Teacher of Geography, you will teach across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the possibility of contributing to KS5 depending on experience and timetable. You will deliver a well-sequenced curriculum that develops:

Strong knowledge of physical and human geography through carefully structured teaching
Map, graph and data interpretation skills through regular practice and application
Confident analytical and evaluative writing supported by modelling and precise feedback
Curiosity, discussion and geographical enquiry through relevant case studies and real-world issues
Exam confidence through deliberate practice, retrieval and clear routines

Students explore topics such as tectonics, weather and climate, rivers and coasts, ecosystems, urban change, development and global challenges. Lessons are designed to help pupils think like geographers by asking questions, analysing evidence and making reasoned judgements.

The Humanities Department

The Humanities department is supportive, well-organised and committed to strong outcomes. Teachers collaborate closely on planning, share resources and use common approaches to assessment so that students build knowledge and skills over time.

The department values:

Knowledge-rich teaching that builds secure understanding over time
Enquiry-led learning supported by strong questioning and discussion
Consistent routines that maximise learning time and support positive behaviour
A strong focus on literacy, including subject vocabulary and extended writing
Targeted intervention and well-planned revision support at GCSE

Geography is well regarded within the school, and the department plays an important role in helping students engage with contemporary global issues while developing strong analytical and evaluative skills.

About the School

The school serves a diverse local community and has established a calm, purposeful learning culture supported by clear expectations and consistent behaviour systems. Students are encouraged to aim high, take pride in their work and develop positive attitudes to learning.

Leaders prioritise staff development and wellbeing, offering practical CPD and a supportive environment where teachers are trusted to deliver ambitious teaching within a structured curriculum. The school is committed to inclusion and supports learners with SEND and EAL through strong teaching and targeted strategies.
