This role involves leading On Track Machines operations in the Southern Region, supervising a shift-based team to ensure safe and efficient track maintenance and renewal work to support the safe running of passenger trains.
Purpose of the Role
Our fleet of On Track Machines, situated in the Southern Region, works with stakeholders to maintain the track for the safe running of passenger trains. As an OTM Team Leader, you will supervise a team to achieve operational excellence and provide maintenance and on-track renewal work. The ideal candidate will live in the Anglia area or within 1.5 hours of Cambridge.
Responsibilities
* Guide and inspire team members to work professionally and respectfully.
* Influence and ensure a safe working environment for all.
* Host monthly team briefs and keep the team updated with company news and events.
* Encourage safety conversations and close call reporting.
* Accurately report and record real-time issues including incidents, accidents and environmental occurrences per company procedures.
* Manage machine service faults and failures, escalating to the maintenance department and communicating issues affecting shift performance to relevant parties.
* Set an example by undertaking activities in accordance with policies, procedures and safety rules.
* Conduct Team Personal Development Reviews annually.
* Support and encourage team training and development needs.
* Aim to achieve high standards through determination, commitment and motivation.
Skills and Qualifications
* Previous experience with On Track Machines; expertise as a Driver/Operator, Fitter/Operator, or Multi-Skilled Operator.
* Dynamic, driven, determined and professional.
* Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
* Training, mentoring and coaching ability with willingness to develop in these areas.
* Positive attitude and ability to thrive in a busy, pressurised environment.
* Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to lead safety-critical reporting and safety-critical/non-safety-critical situations.
* Analytical problem-solving skills.
* Flexible, honest and punctual; able to work weekends and bank holidays as part of a 24/7 shift-based roster (Essential).
* Competent computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook).
* Full knowledge of UK Rail Operations and Standards; excellent geographical knowledge of the Southern Region.
* Full UK Driving Licence (Essential).
