About the role:
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical and Electrical Technician to join our team at our Maple Lodge Sewage Treatment Works, WD3 9SQ.
As the successful candidate, you will ensure that all equipment at our sewage treatment works is running safely and efficiently using proactive and reactive maintenance methods. You will inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair electrical and mechanical plant equipment.
Working within the maintenance team, you will follow robust planned maintenance, get involved in minor installation projects, electrical fault finding, and emergency breakdown repairs to ensure our plant operates all year round.
What you’ll be doing as the Mechanical & Electrical Technician
1. Carrying out scheduled planned maintenance work on mechanical and electrical equipment in compliance with company procedures to minimise plant breakdowns.
2. Investigating plant failures and carrying out repairs efficiently to prevent process interruptions, including diagnosing complex faults and during incidents.
3. Providing technical advice, referring to up-to-date technical knowledge, and supporting or training technical trainees if needed.
4. Working on equipment such as pumps, control gear, 3-phase motors, starters, controls, electronic control systems like VSDs, automatic valves, penstocks, flow, level, and pressure measurement devices, programmable logic controllers, variable speed drives, chemical handling, and dosing equipment.
5. Participating in a standby rota following relevant training.
Base Location: Maple Lodge STW, Rickmansworth WD3 9SQ.
Working Pattern: 38 hours, Monday-Friday 7:30 am – 3:36 pm, with standby & overtime opportunities increasing earnings by potential £8,000 - £10,000.
All PPE and tools are provided.
What you should bring to the role
* You should be a time-served apprentice with significant experience in electrical systems working in a “true multi-skilled” capacity.
* Previous experience in an electrical apprenticeship, ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ, or C&G level 3 in mechanical engineering with an upskill qualification in mechanical NVQ2/3 is crucial.
* Ideally, you will have a mechanical qualification to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair mechanical and electrical plant equipment safely and efficiently.
* If you have mechanical or electrical experience only, we will develop you towards dual-skilled status.
* Knowledge of health and safety issues is essential.
* The role requires physical fitness, including work in confined spaces, with appropriate training.
* A valid driving license is essential; all necessary equipment like vehicle and tools are provided.
