Residential Child Care Support Worker
Location: Carlisle
Contract Type: Part-time, permanent
Specific Hours: hours per week - shift pattern
Salary: Unqualified Basic Salary: £, pro rata (£, FTE) per annum with potential up to £, with sleep-in shifts. Qualified Basic Salary: £, pro rata (£, FTE) per annum, potential up to £, with sleep-in shifts. (Qualified Care Worker salary based on Level Diploma for Residential Childcare)
North Lakes Children’s Services is a well-established provider of residential care and education for boys aged -. We aim to improve resilience, self-esteem, and abilities of young people.
As a Residential Support Worker, you are expected to be “strong, committed, and passionate”. You will be a role model, a listener, warm, approachable, and potentially influential in a young person’s life. Your role involves creating “happy memories” and supporting their development.
We seek permanent Support Workers with a warm, approachable manner who can significantly impact young people's recovery from early experiences.
Main Duties
Specific duties are outlined in detailed shift planners/diaries/handover documents, varying between term-time and holiday periods. Summary of duties during term-time:
* Supporting daily routines, including hygiene, meals, school runs, and activities
* Supporting room cleans, life skills, independence, socialisation, and bedtime routines
* Attending medical and other appointments
* Supporting activity plans
* Completing day sheets and working on targets
* Completing handover documents and daily paperwork
* Managing budgeting requirements
* Performing daily room checks and housecleaning
* Shopping for food and other needs, meal prep, kitchen hygiene, laundry
* Performing checks like COSHH, fire, and vehicle checks
* Building relationships with families, noting special dates, planning family contacts
Role also includes being a Keyworker, building strong bonds, and creating opportunities for young people to thrive.
Requirements
* Flexibility for sleep-in nights and shift work, including rotating start times
* Understanding issues faced by young people in care
* Qualification in Residential Childcare/Families Practitioner Diploma/Children and Young People's Workforce/NVQ Level in Health & Social Care or willingness to work towards it
* Excellent communication and listening skills
* Willingness to learn and work as part of a team
* Willing to undertake an enhanced DBS check (paid by employer)
* Experience with EBD, social/residential work, or youth work is advantageous
* Full, clean UK driving license and flexibility to cover other homes
