The Emergency Medical Technician is a Pennsylvania certified EMT responsible for providing emergency and non-emergency pre-hospital care and safe transport of patients. The EMT also performs clerical and non-technical duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Ambulance & Transportation Services or supervisors of St. Luke’s Emergency & Transport Service.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Administering basic and restricted advanced life support to patients at the scene, en route to the hospital, and in a pre-hospital setting in accordance with laws, regulations, and standards.
* Assessing injury or illness to prioritize medical procedures.
* Rescuing and extricating victims using proper rescue and medical techniques.
* Treating patients in various settings according to regulations.
* Communicating with medical personnel and treatment facilities for instructions and patient reception.
* Maintaining order at scenes and managing crowd control.
* Completing patient care and administrative forms promptly.
* Demonstrating competency in patient assessment and treatment appropriate to age.
* Collaborating with health team members at incidents.
* Documenting assessments and treatments thoroughly within 24 hours.
* Maintaining vehicle and equipment readiness.
* Participating in quality improvement activities.
* Recognizing and following the chain of command.
* Attending staff meetings and operating emergency vehicles safely.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Sitting, standing, walking, using hands, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, squatting, crouching, crawling, climbing, perceiving through touch, hearing, seeing, maintaining balance, speaking clearly, and responding physically with speed. Must get along with others.
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma preferred.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
* PA certified EMT required, with 6+ months preferred.
* Current BLS certification.
* EVOC/EVDT certification after orientation.
* Valid driver's license, observing traffic laws, free from impairments.
* Hazardous materials R & I certification or higher preferred.
* PHTLS, NIMS certifications preferred.
