Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and young people who have experienced trauma? A nurturing and forward-thinking special school in Halifax is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join their team and support pupils using a trauma-informed approach.
About the Role:
As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who have complex social, emotional, and mental health needs, many of whom have experienced adverse childhood experiences. You’ll play a vital role in creating a safe, supportive, and structured environment that promotes healing, learning, and personal growth.
Key Responsibilities:
* Build trusting relationships with pupils to support emotional regulation and engagement in learning
* Implement trauma-informed strategies to de-escalate challenging behaviours and promote wellbeing
* Support the class teacher in delivering tailored learning activities
* Work collaboratively with therapists, SENCOs, and other professionals
* Maintain accurate records and contribute to pupil progress reviews
What We’re Looking For:
* Experience working with children or young people affected by trauma, SEMH, or SEN
* A calm, empathetic, and resilient approach
* Strong communication and teamwork skills
* Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, Team Teach, or equivalent) are desirable
* A genuine commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
